Greetings From Central Texas Fallen Heroes Memorial President

Patrick M Turck...

Another year has passed and we are continuing to work on the memorial project, honoring the Fallen Soldiers of Central Texas. Our main purpose is to continue construction of the memorial so that each Fallen Soldier from Central Texas and Ft Hood is properly remembered for their dedicated service to our country.

The memorial is located at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas. We are dedicated to creating a memorial that will appropriately honor and remember the Fallen Soldiers of this area.

This year, we will dedicate a memorial stone on Memorial Day, May 31st, 2010, honoring the 34 Soldiers who died supporting operations in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2009. While I have always felt a strong determination to follow through on this project, I am even more motivated after spending 2009 in Afghanistan as a civilian contractor. I was able to see the extreme sacrifice of our men and women in uniform, on a daily basis. Despite their difficult living conditions and separation from their friends and family, these men and women performed their duties in a highly professional manner with a great degree of technical, and tactical, expertise. We should truly be proud of the fact that we have some of the finest men and women from our country serving in the armed forces and defending freedom around the world.

This Memorial Day has special meaning for me, personally, as I knew, and worked closely with, four of the Soldiers who we honor this year. I encourage all citizens to recognize the sacrifices that our Soldiers have made. Find a way to honor a Fallen Soldier by donating funds to support memorial projects or aid their families. There are many other Soldiers, thanks to a tremendous medical staff in the armed forces, who have survived battlefield injuries. These Soldiers still need support to adjust to their injuries and assist with ongoing treatments and therapies. At the very least, find a way to say Thank You to a Soldier when you see one. Believe me, Soldiers appreciate a handshake and a thank you.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the ceremony on Memorial Day. As a community, let’s take some time out of our schedule to show the families of our Fallen Soldiers that we care…and we remember.

God Bless You and God Bless America.
